We invite contributions for a conference on everyday life in the segmented city to be held in Florence this July 22-25, 2010. The presentations will be grouped into the following subject areas:

1) Cinematic urbanism: Images and representation of the segmented city; emergent symbolic economics of consumption and production; tourism and visual consumption of the city.
2) Governance and planning: Multicultural cities and ethnic spaces; strategies to govern the multicultural city; citizenship and participation in the segmented city.
3) Suburbanization and the post-urban city: Suburban growth and urban sprawl; revolt of the banlieues; social exclusion in the inner suburbs; urbanity and urbanism in the suburban fringe.
4) Appropriations of urban space: Emerging patterns of social exclusion and personal security; privatization and surveillance of urban space; reclaiming public space.
5) The right to the city: Migration and immigration in the 21st century metropolis; social participation in the segmented city; contested urban spaces.

CANCELLATION POLICIES
The cancellations of the registration fees and/or hotel packages carried out before June 20, 2010 will be reimbursed with a 120,00 Euro deduction for secretarial costs. After this date no reimbursements will be possible, unless the cancellation is for a visa problem. In this case 50% of the paid amount will be reimbursed. Any eventual reimbursement will be given at the end of the congress and will be realised by the bank transfer for which IBAN and SWIFT code are necessary. In certain cases reimbursements by any other mean will be given; however, all the expenses of the transfer will be paid by the applicant

VISA:
If you require an official letter of invitation in order to obtain visa to attend the conference, please write to the organising secretariat at info@promoflorenceevents.com. The letter will assist delegates who need to obtain their governments or departments permission to attend the conference or obtain required visa from Italian consulate abroad. Delegates from countries within the European Union / Schengen Area will only need a valid passport or ID to travel to Italy. All other delegates should contact the nearest Italian embassy or consulate for visa details. In order to obtain the Visa in time for first deadline(June 30th 2010)we kindly invite participants to ask for the invitaion letter in advance
